1. Overview

EnvKit is a local development environment manager for Windows. This policy explains what limited information we collect through our website and desktop app, and how we handle it. We aim to collect as little as possible.

2. Local-first by design

EnvKit runs on your machine. Your projects, source code, databases, environment variables and service configuration stay on your computer. We do not upload, read or store the contents of your local sites or databases.

3. Information we collect

When you visit this website we may process basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type and pages viewed. If you contact us, we receive the details you choose to send (such as your name, email and message). The desktop app checks for updates and reports basic install and version-update events (see "Install & update telemetry" below).

4. How we use information

We use this information to operate and improve EnvKit, respond to your messages, deliver updates, understand aggregate usage, and keep the product secure. We do not sell your personal information.

5. Install & update telemetry

To understand how many people install EnvKit and how quickly they move to new versions, the desktop app sends two small events: one the first time it runs on a machine, and one when it detects it has been updated to a newer version. Each event contains your device name, the signed-in user name, operating system, a hardware summary (CPU, GPU, total RAM, architecture), the EnvKit version, and a randomly generated install ID stored on your machine so repeat counts stay accurate. We do not collect the contents of your projects, source code, databases, environment variables or credentials. You can turn this off completely by setting the environment variable ENVKIT_NO_TELEMETRY=1 before launching EnvKit. The app also reports runtime errors and crashes so we can find and fix bugs. An error report contains the error message and stack trace, the part of the app it came from, your device name, the EnvKit version, and the same install ID — never your project contents or credentials. Error reporting follows the same ENVKIT_NO_TELEMETRY=1 opt-out, and can be turned off on its own with ENVKIT_NO_ERROR_REPORTING=1.

6. Cookies

The website uses only the cookies necessary for it to function and to remember preferences such as your light/dark theme. We do not use advertising cookies.

7. Data sharing

We share data only with service providers that help us run EnvKit (for example hosting and email delivery), and only as needed to provide the service, or where required by law.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, or object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date below and, where appropriate, via an in-app or website notice.
