Comparison

EnvKit vs FlyEnv

FlyEnv is an open-source, cross-platform environment manager that covers a very wide range of languages and servers, and it runs on Linux too. Its free version is limited to 3 sites, with a $10 one-time license to lift that. EnvKit goes deeper on PHP, Laravel and WordPress, with no site limit and no license.

What you gain over FlyEnv

  • No site limit

Every project gets a trusted https://name.test host. There is no license to buy and no device to register.

  • Built for PHP, Laravel and WordPress

Per-site PHP isolation, one-click Laravel starter kits and WordPress installs, Reverb, queue workers, Tinker and a Debug window with N+1 and slow-query flags.

  • It repairs itself

Port conflicts, broken configs and stale processes are diagnosed with a hint that names the cause, and most are fixed from the app.

  • Moves over from Laragon and Herd

The import wizards bring your Laragon projects and databases, or your Herd sites with their PHP pins.

Where FlyEnv still fits better

  • iFlyEnv is open source and runs on Linux

FlyEnv is BSD-licensed and ships for Linux as well. EnvKit is free but closed source, for Windows and Apple Silicon Macs.

  • iFlyEnv covers more languages

Java, Flutter and many more servers are in its catalog. EnvKit focuses on PHP, Node and the services around them, plus Python, Go, Bun and Deno.

Moving from FlyEnv

Add your project folders from the Sites page. EnvKit detects the framework, assigns a .test host and issues a certificate. Dump your databases from FlyEnv and import them into the bundled servers.
